Company description::
Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour is a hybrid of television’s hottest format – “Reality TV”, and the street’s most powerful cultural influencer – “Rap Music”. Think movies like 8-Mile and Juice crossed with Survivor and American Idol. It’s taking a proven television format and giving it street cred. Once again making television fresh (as in Dougie) and original (as in O.G.). Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour is “Reality Rap”.
So what exactly is Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour? It’s an MC battle, an underground club party, a tour across urban America, a fierce competition, a display of artistry, originality and improvisation, a test of courage and, most of all, a window into the most influential and fascinating culture on the planet.
Under the executive direction of The Company, Music and Emmy award-winning director CB Harding (Director of the hit reality series The Osbornes and MTV’s Making The Band), Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour is surely the most exciting thing to hit television since nudity on N.Y.P.D. Blue.
The specific format of Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour is as follows:
• The party will travel across the country stopping in 12 American cities seeking the best MC talent in the nation selected by celebrity judges from each respective city. One MC per city will be chosen for a chance to compete in the Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour competition.
• After the initial selection, each week the chosen 12 MCs will battle each other for domination and play to the viewing audience for support. Giving the power of who advances each week to the American television audience creates viewer interaction and involvement. Using text messaging and e-mail, viewers will have the power to vote off one contestant per week, narrowing down the playing field as the series advances and culminating in the selection of a grand champion and the title of America’s Illest MC. The champion will receive a musical recording contract with The Company and will represent Hip-Hop’s Finest Hour until the end of the following season when a new champion is crowned.
• Contestants are given the chance to write original lyrics over original musical tracks produced by The Company, a music, film and interactive group. A compilation CD featuring all 12 MC contestants will be released mid-season and a DVD containing the entire first season along with bonus material including behind-the-scenes footage and celebrity commentary from some of the industry’s hottest MCs will be released prior to the second season.
The Company is a music, film and interactive company founded by Wanya Morris, one third of the multi-Grammy Award winning group Boyz II Men, Yareem “Mike Millionz” Ali and ad executive
Drake Newkirk.
